David's Story
David was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2012. He was treated with surgery and chemotherapy, including Cisplatin, a chemotherapy drug that Cancer Research UK helped to develop.
“When I was diagnosed with testicular cancer, I was operated on within a week. My left testicle had two tumours on it and that was removed. I was given a course of chemotherapy which I had in three cycles over 9 weeks.”
“The first thing I thought of was how can I turn this into a positive and decided to start fundraising straight away. So, when my doctor told me I was going to lose all my hair after chemotherapy I decided to dye my hair the brightest colour I could, to raise money for Cancer Research UK and to make things a little more light-hearted through such a hard time. Luckily it worked for both!”
David is now working as a manager in a sports store is in good health.
“I believe that if you can turn your time finding out and being treated for cancer into a positive experience, it makes it a lot easier to deal with.”
Cancer Research UK’s researchers have contributed to the scientific understanding of how platinum drugs like Cisplatin kill cancer cells. By playing our Superdraw, you’re helping more people like David receive the treatment they need, faster.

In 2023 we raised £4.5 million from the sale of entries to our Weekly Lottery. 52% of these proceeds were used to help support our vital work. We used 42% to run and administer our Weekly Lottery and 6% to pay prizes.
